The RAID controller automatically writes data to both disks at once. If a disk failed the data can continue to be accessed on the other disk drive, and it re-synchronises to a new disk when it is replaced.
The PC is not aware of the RAID function. It thinks it is communicating with a single disk.

This great value ultra portable external dual-disk RAID drive is great for those needing performance and data safety on the move. Using the disk in its RAID 1 Mirror configuration will give you 500GB of capacity, with your data automatically being written to both disks at the same time. If a disk failed, then your data would be safely held, and can still be accessed, on the other disk drive.
If you want to maximise capacity you can set the disk to Normal mode, so you can access both 500GB disks, giving 1000GB total capacity. Please note that your data is lost when you switch between different modes, so it must be set before you start adding data.
This product is compatible with PC or Macs. We will format in NTFS for PCs unless you tell us you are a Mac user and want it formatted for Mac in HFS+.
The unit cannot be powered from USB ports as they don't supply enough current, so it is essential to use the mains power adaptor that is provided.
Simple PC backup software is included, that springs to life when you press the One Touch backup button on the front of the unit. You can use this to backup your chosen set of folders on your PC.
The whole product has a 2 year warranty.

RAID Setup
Non-RAID: The drives will show up as two independent drives.
RAID 1 - Mirroring: A RAID 1 creates an exact copy (or mirror) of a set of data on the second drive. This is useful when reliability and backup are more important than data capacity. The available capacity to the user will only be as large as a single drive but when one of the hard drives fails, it can be replaced and the data rebuilt automatically.
The enclosure has an LED indication at the front to show the status of the hard drives.
