This TOP QUALITY ALUMINIUM external disk drive is aimed at those who want a 24/7 System Backup disk drive, such as for use with Time Machine.

Uses very latest Seagate Barracuda LP disk built on perpendicular recording technology to deliver new levels of hard drive data density, capacity and reliability.

The disk drives are the very latest LP (Green Low Power) range, saving between 40% and 70% of power compared to standard disks. See our table of power usage below. The disk uses 500GB per platter technology (compared to 250GB or 375GB in older technology) enabling less power and generating less heat and noise.

This product works wonderfully with any PC or Mac. We pre-format for Mac (HFS+) or PC (NTFS format). Please let us know if you are a PC user when you order, otherwise it will be supplied in Mac HFS+ format.

This is a very high quality product. All aspects of the product are the best quality on the market.

Includes SmartAP Monitoring software. Runs as a Mac OS Dashboard Gadget, or Windows Vista/Windows 7 Sidebar gadget. Monitors disk temperature and other status. Disk Monitoring Software for PC/Mac

View the spaced used, the hours of power-on use, the number of power on/off cycles.

View the current disk temperature and the maximum temperature reached. Receive e-mail alerts if temperature threshold is passed.

NOTE: We have tested this with MacOS Leopard, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. We have found that under Windows XP the disk may not be seen through the firewire interface.
